About the Book.

Discover one of the oldest and most authentic cuisines in the world with this unique cookbook, which explores the foundations of Middle Eastern cooking.

From the world's oldest recorded cuneiform recipes, some 4,000 years ago, there is a straight line to the kitchen of Smuni Turan. Her recipes have been collected by her son in this cookbook.

The Oldest Kitchen in the World describes both the cuisine and the culture of the Assyrians, also known as Arameans or Suryoye. Now scattered all over the world, they all still speak dialects of Aramaic, and more importantly: they still cook the dishes that all Middle Eastern kitchens are indebted to.

About the Author.

Matay de Mayee is a creative director, chef, event producer, and photographer. He is the founder of multi-concept canal house De Stijlkamer Amsterdam, a prime location for photoshoots, film, events and an exclusive supper club that he co-hosts. Matay’s parents left as one of the first Christian families from Tur Abdin to The Netherlands, where he was born and raised. With the Oldest Kitchen in the World he debuts as a cookbook author.

About the Moderator. 

Lilah Raptopoulos is the host of Life and Art, the flagship culture podcast from FT Weekend, and a US culture writer for the Financial Times. She is based in New York. Lilah was previously the co-host of Culture Call, and led community journalism initiatives for the Financial Times. She also did community journalism and culture writing for The Guardian. She has a masters in journalism for digital innovation from NYU.
